Dr. Lowenthal is a Board-Certified family physician who has been practicing medicine since 2007.  She is a graduate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed her residency at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) where she served as Chief Resident in the Dept of Family and Community Medicine.  Often described by her patients as smart, warm and empathetic, she has been named a “Top 10 Metro Area Doctors” in 2014, as one of the East Bay’s “Best Doctors” by Oakland Magazine in 2012, and is a six-time Patient’s Choice Award recipient and a four-time Compassionate Doctor Award recipient.

In addition to her primary care practice, Dr. Lowenthal has a special interest and expertise in the treatment of eating disorders.  Having treated patients suffering from these conditions for the past 12 years, Dr. Lowenthal has extensive knowledge of the medical, psychological and social aspects of these conditions as well as how they impact the lives of patients and their families.

She is one of few physicians nationwide who has been designated by the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals (iaedp) as a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist (CEDS) as well as an iaedp-Approved supervisor for other professionals in the field.  She is a former Medical Liaison to and Board Member of the iaedp SF Bay Area Chapter and a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders.

Outside of the office she enjoys hiking on Mt. Tam, reading and spending time with her friends, spiritual community and her husband, Fred.
